McAllister Brewing Co. Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout Series - Sir Fuzzy Pants vol. 3

By Seth Montz - Nov 18, 2022

McAllister Brewing Company (North Wales, PA) has created a Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout for the past 3 years known as "Sir Fuzzy Pants"! This year's version has strong notes of pecan and chocolate with a velvet mouth feel and a warm boozy finish.

Imperial stout is a beer style that has a long history, even though its production almost came to a halt a handful of times. The beer's origins can be traced back to strong English porters brewed for export in the 1700s and said to be popular with the Russian Imperial Court. Following the interruption of trade caused by the Napoleonic Wars, these beers became increasingly popular in England. The style eventually faded away, only to be resurrected in the modern craft beer era, both in England as a revival and in the United States as a reinterpretation or re-imagination by incorporating American characteristics.

These beers are commonly characterized as big, dark, and intensely flavored with a variety of flavors and regional interpretations. Roasty-burnt malt with dark fruit flavors and a warming, bittersweet finish is the most prominent element of the style. Despite the intense flavors, the components come together to form a complex, harmonious beer rather than a total mess.

Here at McAllister Brewing Co., we strive to create high-quality craft beer and this is perfectly showcased by our Imperial stout “Sir Fuzzy Pants”, affectionately nicknamed after our beloved cat because they’re both complex and delightful. The upcoming edition of our beloved, rich, bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout will be the third and most decadent yet. On the nose, you’ll find plenty of pecan notes (we’re talking pecan pie in a glass!), and scents of dark chocolate, all encompassed by a comforting bourbon booziness. As you allow the aromas and flavors to develop in the glass, you'll notice that the vanilla, praline, and cookie character of the beer emerges. This Imperial Stout's 11.5% ABV makes it the ideal nightcap whether you're drinking it at home or out on a beer-tasting evening. Although it has a strong boozy aroma, as soon as this creamy sweetness touches your palate, you'll realize that you’re enjoying a deceptively easy sipper.

We can’t help but highlight the fact that this beer also has great aging potential, so make sure to stock up so you can enjoy it throughout the year and see how the aromas and tastes develop over time.

Make sure to RSVP here for the release event of Sir Fuzzy Pants Vol.3 on the 23rd of November at 3:00 pm. We’re looking forward to seeing you and listening to your thoughts about our newest release!
